What we can learn from baking

As some of you know I am an avid baker. I LOVE it. I could bake all day and night if I was allowed. To me baking is therapy. When I have a bad day or if I'm stressed about an upcoming exam, I head straight for the kitchen. All I need is to roll up my sleeves, feel the sugar grains, and smell the fruits of my hard work. I can't say enough about the benefits of baking.

For me baking relieves stress and clears my head. For people with exceptionalities it is therapy for the hands, the language, and the mind. It is also a great way to teach young children new vocabulary words, even if all they can say at the moment is "Blah, Mommom" . It is a great way to develop those fine motor skills and to add to their the ever changing language. My son loves to watch me when I bake. I explain everything to him from the measurements to the ingredients I'm adding. He loves it and I love it. It's time we share just the two of us. What about you? What kinds of baking stories do you have? Do you have a baking partner? How does baking help you? Bake on!
